Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 11 September 2026

These terms cover two separate things: your use of this website, and the basis on which design work is carried out. The website terms apply to everyone. The project terms describe how engagements normally run — the binding version for any specific project is the written proposal and acceptance for that project, which takes precedence over anything on this page.

Part one: using this website

Who operates the site

designbyab.com is operated by Abdul Basit, trading as Design by AB. Contact: hello@designbyab.com.

Content ownership

All text, layout, code, imagery, marks and design systems shown on this site are owned by the studio or by the clients the work was produced for, and are protected by copyright. You may read, print and share pages for your own reference. You may not republish the content as your own, present the work shown here as work you produced, or use it to train a commercial model without written permission.

Accuracy

The site is kept as accurate as I can make it, but nothing on it is a guarantee. Timelines given on service pages are typical ranges, not commitments, and prices discussed in conversation are specific to the project they were quoted for.

Links out

Where this site links to another website, that site is outside my control and its content is its operator’s responsibility.

Availability

The site is provided as it is. It may be unavailable during maintenance or because of a hosting fault, and I am not liable for loss arising from downtime.

Part two: how projects normally work

Proposals

Every project starts with a written proposal setting out scope, deliverables, timeline, fee and revision rounds. A proposal is valid for 30 days. Work begins when the proposal is accepted in writing and the deposit has been received.

Fees and payment

Projects are normally quoted as a fixed fee against a fixed scope, invoiced 50% on acceptance and 50% on delivery, unless the proposal states otherwise. Invoices are due within 14 days. Work pauses on overdue invoices.

Scope and revisions

Each stage includes the number of revision rounds set out in the proposal. Revisions refine the agreed direction. A change of direction after a stage has been signed off, or a new deliverable that was not in the proposal, is new scope: I will quote it separately before doing it rather than absorbing it silently and rushing the rest.

Your responsibilities

Projects run to time when copy, product information, logins and feedback arrive when agreed, and when one named person is responsible for sign-off. Delays in material or feedback move the delivery date by at least the length of the delay.

Ownership of the work

On final payment, ownership of the approved final deliverables transfers to you, along with the rights needed to use them commercially without restriction. Until final payment, the work remains mine.

Three things are excluded from that transfer: unused concepts and rejected routes, which remain mine; third-party licensed assets such as typefaces and stock imagery, which are licensed to you directly by their owners and are your responsibility to maintain; and my working files and internal methods, which I keep. Source files are handed over where the proposal says they are.

Showing the work

Unless you ask me in writing not to, I may show completed work in my portfolio, on this site and on social channels once it is public. If a project is confidential or under embargo, say so and it stays unpublished.

What you warrant

You confirm that any material you supply — copy, images, logos, product information — is yours to use, and that claims made in copy you supply are accurate and compliant. Responsibility for the accuracy of supplied copy, and for final approval of artwork before it goes to print, sits with you.

Print and production

Artwork is supplied print-ready to the specification agreed. Printed colour will vary between substrates, presses and runs; a match to a screen preview is not something any designer can guarantee. Where colour is critical, a press proof should be requested and signed off before the run. I am not liable for the cost of a print run approved by you.

Cancellation

Either side may end a project in writing. Work completed up to that point is invoiced at the proportion of the fee it represents, and the deposit is non-refundable once work has started.

Liability

Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud. Otherwise, total liability for any project is limited to the fees paid for that project, and neither side is liable for indirect or consequential loss such as lost profit or lost business.

Confidentiality

Commercial information shared during a project is kept confidential by both sides and used only for the project, indefinitely. A separate NDA can be signed where you need one.

Governing law

These terms, and any project carried out under them, are governed by the law of the jurisdiction in which the studio is established, and disputes that cannot be resolved directly are subject to the courts of that jurisdiction. The proposal for your project states the jurisdiction that applies to it.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The version in force for a project is the one current on the date the proposal was accepted.
